Khan booked for terrorism

Imran Khan, former prime minister, was the subject of a first information report (FIR) filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening a second session judge and senior Islamabad Police officers at a protest in the federal capital’s F-9 Park.

According to Section 7 of the ATA, the FIR was filed after Magistrate Ali Javed filed a complaint at the Margalla Police Station in Islamabad.

At a gathering in F-9 Park, the PTI chairman allegedly threatened to ‘terrorize’ law enforcement personnel and the judiciary, as well as Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and police officers, according to the FIR. According to the FIR, the major goal of the intimidation was to stop the judges and police from fulfilling their legitimate duties.

According to the FIR, Imran Khan’s statement was intended to sow fear and discontent among the populace. Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, had threatened to “not leave” the female magistrate, deputy inspector general, and inspector general of Islamabad a day earlier and to bring legal action against them for torturing Shahbaz Gill. He addressed a crowd of onlookers at the F-9 Park and declared that we will not spare the IG and DIG.

The former prime minister criticized Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry, who last week ordered Gill’s two-day physical remand at the request of the capital police, and advised her to get ready as well since a case will be filed against her as well.

The PTI chairman made the comments while leading a demonstration in Islamabad from Zero Point to F-9 Park in support of imprisoned leader Shahbaz Gill, who the party said had been the victim of alleged “gruesome abuse” while being held by the police. He continued by saying that Fazl-ur-Rehman, Nawaz Sharif, and Rana Sanaullah would all be subject to legal action if a case could be brought against Gill. This is a ‘decisive time’ for the citizens of the nation, he continued, adding that they [the coalition administration] are attempting to scare us by torturing Gill.

In the meantime, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued a directive to all TV channels prohibiting the broadcast of any content (whether recorded or produced under its banner or broadcast during a live speech or press conference) that is critical of the government institutions. According to the PEMRA’s directive, it has been noticed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan frequently targets state institutions in his speeches and statements by making unfounded accusations and encouraging hate speech by making provocative remarks about state officials and institutions. This is harmful to the upkeep of law and order and is likely to cause public unrest and tranquility, according to the PEMRA.
