Impersonating Authority: Gang Leader Posing as Police Officer Nabbed for Robbing Sikh Family in Lahore

A group of individuals wearing police uniforms robbed an Indian Sikh family, led by Kanwal Jeet Singh, on November 30 in Gulberg, Lahore, while they were shopping.

The family had come to Pakistan to celebrate Baba Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary. The perpetrators, posing as police officers, stole Rs400,000 in cash and jewelry from the foreign visitors, as reported by Dawn. The incident prompted Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take swift action, expediting the investigation. He announced the apprehension of the gang’s ringleader, identified as Ahmad Raza, and ongoing raids to arrest other members of the network.

Police-gathered surveillance video revealed a white car carrying two suspected robbers who targeted a Sikh family by feigning a document check. One of the perpetrators wore a police uniform, while the other was dressed in plain clothes. Utilizing the pretext of document inspection, they coerced the Sikh pilgrims to present their paperwork while inside their vehicle, as depicted in the CCTV footage.

During this process, the suspects forcibly seized a woman’s bag containing cash, jewelry, and other valuables. The footage captured the family chasing the suspects’ car after the incident. Despite the clear act of robbery, the FIR was filed as a fraud case. The detailed report indicates that the robbers absconded with 150,000 Indian rupees, 300,000 PKR, as well as jewelry and valuable watches.
