HBL Pakistan Super League matches to go ahead in Lahore and Rawalpindi

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi has confirmed that the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches scheduled to be held in Lahore and Rawalpindi will proceed as planned.

The announcement comes after negotiations between the PCB and the Punjab government over security arrangements for the matches. The Punjab government had initially demanded Rs450 million for security, which it later reduced to Rs250 million.

The PCB, however, refused to pay, arguing that it is the government’s responsibility to provide protection to the teams as per the agreements signed in 2014. The PCB had also informed its patron-in-chief, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of the issue.

The Punjab government had agreed to light up the route from the team hotels to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, but the standoff with the PCB had continued to drag on. The PCB had received a verbal offer from the government to reduce the amount to Rs250 million, but the board did not agree. Despite this, the Punjab government has agreed to share the cost of lighting routes during PSL matches in Lahore.

The remaining PSL matches are scheduled to take place between February 27 and March 19, with Lahore and Rawalpindi hosting several matches. The tournament’s final will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 19.
