Owing to strong security alerts, Lahore Additional Deputy Commissioner Atiyab Sultan suggested in a letter on Wednesday that former Prime Minister Imran Khan should conduct the Jalsa on Thursday virtually.
Sultan wrote in a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office: “In light of severe threat alerts received from security agencies and as per latest intelligence assessments made at the district and provincial levels, it is recommended that ex-prime minister Imran Khan address the mass rally virtually by video conference and LED display instead of making a physical appearance at Greater Iqbal Park, Lahore on 21-04-2022.”
The letter was sent to PTI Punjab president Shafqat Mahmood, PTI Lahore president Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood, PTI Punjab general secretary Zubair Niazi, and rally organizer Ali Warraich, asking them to act quickly to “prevent any untoward incident.” PTI Additional Secretary Information Hassan Khawar responded to the letter by telling DawnNewsTV that the government’s actions will not discourage the party. According to Khawar, the government should not be alarmed by the PTI’s campaign. He claimed that the PTI chairman would attend the event in Lahore and that the party would continue its public outreach.
