Government Launches PM’s Laptop Scheme-III

Under Phase III of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Programme, Pakistan’s Prime Minister has stated that gifted students will receive laptops.

Young and brilliant students studying at public sector universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) around the nation are the target audience for the Scheme, which intends to give them high-quality, modern laptops. Up to 100,000 laptops will be given out to deserving pupils through an online, open method. Up to June 20, 2023, students can apply online at www.pmyp.gov.pk, a special application site. This program’s goal is to raise the standard of ICT education in the sciences and technologies.

By offering students cutting-edge IT tools, the project will also boost production and efficiency. It’s important to note that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has already carried out two such initiatives under the same programme with success. Students must be enrolled in public sector universities or degree-granting institutions that have been duly approved by HEC to be eligible to receive laptops as prizes. Student enrollment is required through June 30, 2023. Students must be admitted after June 30, 2018, but before June 30, 2023, if they are enrolled in a five-year programme. For four-year programmes, this means after June 30, 2019, but before June 30, 2023.

Similar requirements apply to students enrolling in two-year programmes, who must be admitted between June 30, 2021, and June 30, 2023. The start dates for the 3.5, 2.5, and 1.5-year projects are December 31, 2019, December 31, 2020, and December 31, 2021, respectively, while June 30, 2023, serves as the conclusion date for all three programmes. Students participating in 18-year PhD, MS, MPhil, or comparable studies shouldn’t enroll in a weekend course. The day of laptop distribution at each HEI will involve validating the students’ eligibility and enrollment status as described above. The laptop will only be given to students who submitted their applications through the online portal on time and were chosen based on the predetermined criteria.

Students in all degree programmes, including BS (16 Years), MS/MPhil (18 Years), and PhD, will be awarded laptops based on merit. The percentage of laptops will be determined based on how many students are enrolled in each degree programme. Students must have obtained 60% in the annual system and 70% in the semester system. The HEC-defined formula shall regulate the conversion of CGPA/GPA to percent.

Free laptops are back

The most deserving students concerning the allotted quota of each department or programme will be taken into consideration for the award of laptops per their appropriate quota (year-wise or semester-wise).
