Government employees protest against 6 working days

Employees of federal government are protesting against newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to eliminate Saturday as a day off and expand workplace hours.

PM Shehbaz said just hours after taking power that Saturday would no longer be a weekly day off, and that government offices would be open six days a week.

Furthermore, the premier adjusted office hours and directed that government offices open at 8:00 a.m. Due to Ramadan, the schedule has to be adjusted.

In response to these actions, the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) scheduled a protest on Wednesday, which is now taking place outside the Ministry of Finance building in the Pak Secretariat’s Q-Block in Islamabad.

The demonstration is being attended by personnel from all government ministries, agencies, and divisions.

They want the directive from April 12th, which limited government employees’ holiday leave, revoked.

After the protest, the alliance will call a joint conference of all federal government employee organisations to decide on a further line of action.
