Football enthusiasts in Pakistan have a reason to celebrate as Etzaz Hussain, a prominent player based in Norway, has successfully obtained his Pakistani passport.
This development makes Etzaz eligible to participate in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March, bolstering the Men in Green’s squad. The announcement was made by Saadia Altaf Qazi, Pakistan’s ambassador to Norway, on her social media account (formerly Twitter). Etzaz, a 30-year-old player currently playing for Apollon Limassol FC in the Cyprus league, is a notable addition to the pool of players eligible to represent Pakistan. His inclusion is expected to provide a significant lift to the team as they gear up for crucial matches.
✨💫⭐️⚽️Attention fans of Eitzaz Muzafar Hussain!
As promised, here’s his 🇵🇰 passport. Happy new year to you all 🎉🎊 pic.twitter.com/NyyKZkeaS3— Saadia Altaf Qazi (@saadiaqazi1) January 2, 2024
Notably, Etzaz has previously played for Molde FK in Norway, alongside Erling Haaland, who now plays for the UEFA Champions League-winning team, Manchester City. The addition of Etzaz to the Pakistan national team will address a vacancy in the central midfield, previously well-managed by Rahis Nabi and Alamgir Ghazi. Etzaz’s presence is expected to resolve the defensive midfield concerns within the team, seamlessly fitting into Stephen Constantine’s strategies.
The upcoming match for Pakistan is set for 21 March, where they will host Jordan before facing them in Jordan on 26 March. Notably, Pakistan has achieved qualification for the second round of FIFA World Cup qualification, marking a historic milestone. In earlier matches of the competition, the Men in Green encountered Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan, suffering defeats with scores of 4-0 and 6-1, respectively.
