Four Companions Washed Away in Kohistan After waiting Three Hours for help

One friend survived after spending three hours trapped in floodwaters in the Sanagai district of Lower Kohistan District while the other four friends passed away.

The five fatalities were reportedly trapped by intense floods before climbing onto a rock to protect themselves, according to locals. The victims waited for assistance, but no rescue crew showed up to aid them. Eventually, the high-pressure flood water swept them away. Locals claim that if the administration had desired it, a chopper could have left Peshawar or Gilgit in an hour. They attempted to save them by tugging them with the aid of a rope, but they were only able to save one of the five.

They claimed that only one victim could be saved, with the other four being carried away by floods, and that they could only find one body out of the other four. Social media users have been sharing the incident’s video and expressing their outrage at the authorities for failing to save the victims. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration earlier today declared an emergency in Swat after the extent of the destruction brought on by catastrophic flooding in the district after record rains reached out of control. Distressed families are having trouble being rescued from Chitral, Dir, and Swat’s highland stations.

The state of emergency will last until August 30 to facilitate relief work in Swat’s flood-affected regions. District Administration Kohistan has released an official statement calling the claims made in social media posts that the district administration failed to deploy a rescue squad to save the four trapped individuals in Dubair for five hours “patently false.” The message made it clear that the rescue would be “very tough” given the circumstances.

On Thursday, hundreds of homes and businesses were devastated by torrential rain from the Sulaiman mountain range and nearby mountains in the Tank district, and four people were presumed dead after a truck was washed away by flash floods near Sawan Bridge on the Dera Ismail Khan-Zhob Highway.

In the settlements situated along the banks of rivers, nullahs, and seasonal streams, the floods also swept away hundreds of cattle, homes, and cereals. In the Darazinda district, a heroic police officer named Ashiq Din risked his life to save three siblings—a sister and two brothers—from drowning in flooding while a woman in Kiri Khaisoor suffered serious injuries after a roof collapsed. Later, the siblings were given to their parents.

After wreaking havoc in most areas of the Tank district, including Yarak Rodikhel and Pasha Muqeem Shah, the floods were now heading towards the Indus River. To protect the populace from flooding, the western bank of the Chashma Right Bank Canal was breached. A strong flood, which devastated homes and crops in some of Shorkot and other regions, caused the canal to burst. Other locations that experienced floods were the Dera-Chashma route, Mandra Saidan, Rodgamal, Phota village, Hathiala-Kulachi road, Daraban, Girah Mada, Girah Khan, Gandi Ashiq, Paroa, and other places.
