Flying Vehicle Takes Off In Dubai

A momentous event in the potential future of travel and public transportation was witnessed in Dubai on Monday when Xpeng, Chinese technology, and electric vehicle manufacturer, completed the first successful global public flight of their X2 flying car.

The X2 flying automobile completed its test flight after taking off from Skydive Dubai, ushering in a brand-new thrilling era of short-haul trips and intelligent mobility solutions. With a maximum takeoff weight of 760 kg, an empty weight of 560 kg, and a top-flight speed of 130 km/h, the self-piloted two-seater flying car is capable of carrying passengers. It has a 35-minute flight time and is constructed of premium carbon fiber and is fitted with an airframe parachute.

The futuristic electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (eVTOL), the most recent iteration of flying automobiles, can fly on its own and utilizes an intelligent flight control system. The X2 is a zero-carbon vehicle designed for low-altitude cities. Li Xu Hang, China’s consul general in the UAE, Hassan Al Hashemi, Dubai Chambers’ acting president and CEO, Dr. Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of Xpeng, and Mohammad Al Kamali, deputy CEO of Dubai Industries and Exports, all attended the ceremony. To investigate larger international markets using Dubai as a gateway, the Dubai International Chamber has been closely collaborating with Xpeng.

In conjunction with Gitex Global 2022, which is being held in the Dubai World Trade Center, a test flight was done. Senior UAE officials asked Xpeng to choose their country to grow their business earlier this year while they were in Guangzhou, China. Many high-net-worth individuals are interested in technology and such lavish products, and this flying car is a luxury item. Omar Abdulaziz Al-Khan, executive director for foreign offices at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that Dubai is where we have clients. He made the following statement when asked when flying cars will be suitable for usage in the workplace, it depends on how quickly they can embrace the framework of urban commercialized flying.

More testing would be conducted in Dubai before it is commercialized, he added, adding that in his opinion, this can happen in Dubai within the next two to three years. He continued that Dubai Civil Aviation Authority is working with the company and regularly communicates its input with Xpeng, which is receiving feedback quite actively. To promote the emirate’s innovation goal, Dubai has developed into a magnet and testing ground for businesses from around the globe. The choice to introduce the X2 flying automobile in Dubai is evidence of the city’s status as a leader in global innovation and a center for cutting-edge technology, according to Hassan Al Hashemi.

The following generation of flying cars will have vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, intelligence, and electric propulsion. The product’s development started in 2020, and mass production and delivery are expected to start in 2024. The government is committed to assisting businesses that select Dubai as their hub, according to Al Kamali.

We think that our flying car will be the ideal match for Dubai, to jointly investigate and construct the future of 3D transportation, so that everyone can fly freely in the skies, added Dr. Gu. Opportunities are endless here, and we collaborate with various groups and organizations to make things go smoothly, he said.
