FIA Takes Action: Nine ‘Beggars’ Removed from Saudi Arabia-Bound Flight

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) thwarted the journey of nine individuals believed to be disguising themselves as Umrah pilgrims, with the actual intention of begging in Saudi Arabia.

The apprehensions occurred at Multan International Airport, where FIA Immigration officials stopped six women and two men attempting to board a flight to Saudi Arabia. The arrests were prompted by their failure to disclose any hotel reservations for their intended stay in Saudi Arabia. The detained individuals have been handed over to the FIA’s anti-human trafficking unit for further inquiry. The FIA spokesperson underscored the continuous vigilant monitoring of passengers to dismantle groups involved in begging through deceptive tactics.

This instance follows another one in which the FIA allegedly offloaded 24 accused beggars from a flight heading for Saudi Arabia at the airport in Multan, under the pretense of being Umrah pilgrims.

These individuals admitted during immigration procedures that they intended to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to collect alms. These arrests align with disclosures made to the Senate Committee on Overseas Pakistanis by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, emphasizing that a significant portion of beggars are smuggled overseas through illicit means. The authorities remain dedicated to tackling these problems and stopping the illegal activities related to begging and human trafficking.
