Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Shocks Fans with Unexpected WWE Comeback

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made an unexpected comeback to the WWE, and the WWE’s official account on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a video clip of Johnson’s appearance on WWE SmackDown! Friday night at Ball Arena in Denver.

In the video, ESPN sports analyst Pat McAfee is seen conversing with Johnson, then he points out someone behind the former wrestler, humorously saying, ‘Hey, there’s a guy, he can’t see you,’ referring to John Cena’s famous wrestling catchphrase, ‘You can’t see me.’ The camera then swings over to reveal Cena standing motionless behind Johnson, gazing straight ahead while holding his hands behind his back. Unflappable Johnson congratulates his former adversary as the crowd erupts.

With stern expressions and a complete lack of emotion, the two men confront each other, but their attempts to maintain a serious demeanor quickly dissolve as both burst into smiles. ‘I notice your effort to smile,’ remarked Johnson as he gestured toward Cena, who responded with a nod of affirmation. The star of ‘The Peacemaker’ then extends his hand toward Johnson, warmly saying, ‘You’re back home.’ The two embraced, eliciting enthusiastic cheers from the audience. Online, fans expressed their approval, with a significant number expressing their satisfaction at witnessing the long-standing rivals becoming more relaxed. One wrestling enthusiast commented, ‘It was great to witness this; it seems like the recent strikes have had a positive effect on Strikes,’ likely alluding to the Hollywood strikes led by SAG-AFTRA and WGA during the summer.

Over the years, these two fighters nurtured a professional rivalry that brought joy to WWE fans, and this fierce competition between the wrestling icons was featured in season 2 of the A&E series WWE Rivals, which delved into their notorious rivalry. Cena openly voiced his disapproval of Johnson both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, resulting in highly anticipated matchups in 2012 and 2013. In 2011, Cena started telling fans that Johnson had been absent from the wrestling ring for eight years and began to doubt whether The Rock still had a genuine interest in the wrestling industry, as noted by an expert in WWE Rivals.
