Daewoo bus passenger who miraculously jumped burning bus says the driver fell asleep

An accident between Daewoo bus and a Shell fuel tanker that caused at least 20 fatalities on motorway happened because the driver fell asleep while driving said a passenger who miraculously escaped the bus seconds before explosion with his brother.

While talking to Geo news, the boy said that the bus crashed into an oil tanker while there was no traffic on the road at all. He said as soon as the bus crashed, he along his brother jumped out of the bus through a broken window in the back. ‘After a few minutes of us jumping out of the bus, the entire bus exploded,’ the boy said.

He said that the driver had slept while on route and crashed into a moving oil tanker from behind.

Officials said that an early-morning collision between a passenger bus and an oil tanker on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) resulted in at least 20 fatalities and six injuries. According to a statement from Multan Deputy Commissioner Tahir Wattoo, the passenger bus, which was going from Lahore to Karachi, struck the oil tanker at the Jalalpur Peerwala junction on the highway from behind. Following the collision, a fire broke out, and 20 individuals perished then and there, the statement continued.

Multan Commissioner Amir Khattak afterward tweeted to confirm the development. He stated that the incident had happened around 4 am. The provincial monitoring center for Rescue 1122 in Lahore, however, stated in a statement that the accident happened around 2:20 am. The bus and the oil tanker were in ruins when the commissioner posted photos of the accident scene.

A representative for the motorway police was quoted by Dawn News TV as claiming that the tanker was carrying thousands of liters of gasoline. He continued by saying that the bus driver’s obvious intoxication was what caused the disaster.

Dr. Amjad Chandio, the medical director at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, told Dawn.com that the 20 bodies were being prepared for burial at the hospital’s mortuary while four of the injured were originally moved to the facility’s burns section.

Later, DC Wattoo released a second statement in which she announced that DNA testing was being started to identify the deceased. Parvez Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, requested a report on the occurrence from the Multan commissioner in the meantime.

He was reported by the Chief Minister’s Office as saying that all facets of the tragedy should be looked into and the perpetrators should be found. The CM conveyed his sorrow over the accident’s fatalities and offered his condolences to the families of the deceased. According to the statement, he also gave instructions to the pertinent authorities to give the injured people the greatest medical care. Also expressing sorrow over the incident and offering prayers for the departed and their families was Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He tweeted that he is devastated by the accident’s loss of 20 priceless lives. His thoughts and prayers are with the deceased family.

Separately, a passenger coach that was traveling on the highway crashed into a ditch close to Rohri, killing eight people and injuring more than twenty. Rescue personnel said that the bus, which was traveling from Swat to Karachi, overturned when the driver took a sudden bend and landed in a ditch.

Four women and two children were among those who died, according to Mohammad Urs Magsi and Gul Mahar, who are in charge of the Edhi Center in Sukkur. They said that as soon as they learned about the tragedy, rescue workers arrived on the spot and transported the injured and dead to Rohri Taluka Hospital, where an emergency had been declared. The official expressed concern that there might be more casualties and stated that the injured were in critical condition.
