Controversy Erupts as ‘Alien Bodies’ Display in Mexico Sparks Global Outrage

The display of purported non-human remains during a UFO hearing in Mexico’s legislature on Thursday drew immediate criticism from around the world, with some labeling it a “stunt.” Officials in Peru, where the reported specimens first surfaced, also raised concerns. Jaime Maussan, a Mexican journalist with a long-standing interest in UFOs, presented two miniature “bodies” to the lawmakers at the meeting on Tuesday.

These bodies were exhibited within enclosures, each featuring three fingers on their hands and elongated heads. He asserted that they were discovered in Peru in 2017 and had no connection to earthly life. Similar contentious statements by Maussan have been made in the past. This congressional hearing in Mexico, the first of its kind, generated both strong curiosity and disapproval worldwide.

Ryan Graves, a former pilot for the United States Navy who attended the meeting to recount his firsthand encounters with sightings of “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” or UAP, criticized the presentation harshly. Graves stated on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that “yesterday’s demonstration was a significant step down for this topic.” He added, “This unsupported stunt has left me feeling incredibly disillusioned.”

When speaking at U.S. Congressional hearings on UAP in July, Graves claimed that observations of unexplained phenomena in airspace were “grossly under-reported.” According to Maussan’s presentation, the specimens were discovered near Peru’s historic Nazca Lines and were estimated to be 1,000 years old based on carbon dating results from Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM). Maussan asserted that they had no kinship with any earthly species.

Similar discoveries in the past have turned out to be the remains of mummified children. Leslie Urteaga, the Minister of Culture for Peru, stated that no scientific agency in the South American nation had determined the remains to be non-human and questioned how the specimens had left Peru. Regarding Maussan and his associates, Urteaga informed reporters late on Wednesday that the Ministry of Culture had filed a criminal complaint against a few individuals.

She proceeded by saying that she intends to seek information to learn more about the developments regarding the removal of pre-Hispanic artifacts, as she is aware that they are intertwined with the bone remains from the pre-Hispanic era. In an interview with Reuters on Thursday, Maussan asserted that those who oppose his views have not presented any proof to counter his claims.

Maussan added, “With testimonials, questions, and not a single piece of evidence, they aim to undermine the impact of this revelation.” He invited critics to visit and engage in a discussion, saying, “We have been conducting investigations for years, and they want to come and inquire with just a simple discussion.”

The UNAM’s National Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry with Accelerators (LEMA) was originally established with the primary objective of ascertaining the ages of samples, as articulated in an announcement initially released in 2017 and reiterated on Wednesday. Reuters requested access to the complete study results and an opportunity to speak with the researchers who participated, but UNAM declined.

Moreover, it refrained from disclosing the age of the samples it examined for its study. As NASA officials held a news conference on Thursday to address questions about the Mexican presentation and unveiled their study with suggestions for assisting the Pentagon in locating and analyzing UAP, study chair and former director of Princeton University’s astrophysics department, David Spergel, called for transparency. He expressed that should anything unusual be discovered, the scientific community ought to have the opportunity to scrutinize the samples, and he strongly recommended their involvement in doing so.
