Cher’s Mother, Actress Georgia Holt, Passes Away At Age 96

Georgia Holt, Cher’s mother, passed away at the age of 96, and she is in grief. Mom is gone, the venerable singer tweeted over the weekend.

Cher’s agent Liz Rosenberg informed The Washington Post that the information was accurate. Cher’s reps have been contacted by CNN. Holt had experienced health concerns recently, though no additional information about the circumstances of her death has been made public. Cher said in September that her mother had experienced recurrent health problems and had been hospitalized with pneumonia. I apologize for being MIA. Mom has been ill periodically. She recently left the hospital. Pneumonia affected her. The singer of “Believe,” who at the time had 4 million Twitter followers, said that her mother is getting better.

After word of Holt’s passing spread, condolences from admirers and famous people flooded in. Hillary Clinton, a former US presidential candidate, tweeted: “So sorry for your loss, my friend. I’m sending you all the (love) I can. Actress Marg Helgenberger of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” tweeted: “Oh @cher I’m so sad to hear of the passing of your dear mother. My sympathy is with you. What a gift it was to have her in your life for the amount of time you did. Let her soul rest in peace. Holt, who was born in Arkansas in 1926, was a model, singer, and actor. She had roles in movies including “A Life of Her Own” and “Grounds for Marriage” in the 1950s, as well as on TV shows like “I Love Lucy” and “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.”

She released her debut album, “Honky Tonk Woman,” in 2013, which she had previously recorded with members of Elvis Presley’s band back in the 1980s, fulfilling her lifelong ambition to become a recording artist. “I’m Just Your Yesterday,” a duet with Cher, was also included on the CD. The documentary “Dear Mom, Love Cher,” which was executive produced by Holt’s daughter, featured her as its subject. Holt’s youth, her marriages, her profession, and motherhood were all covered in the Lifetime network TV special. At the time, Holt told the Huffington Post that she sobbed from the special and she cried from the record being out after all these years.
