British – Pakistani Racer Enaam Ahmed Shines Through Challenging Conditions, Secures Impressive Top Eight Finish

Enaam Ahmed, a British-Pakistani racer, fought his way into the top 10 of the IndyNXT by Firestone race this past weekend by outdueling several elite competitors and navigating a dangerously slick circuit.

The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course hosted the seventh round of the 2023 season. The course, which has so many elevation changes that it resembles a roller coaster, was lined with several American spectators sleeping in their tents and trailers to watch the action. Ahmed fought his way to the head of the pack after starting the Mid-Ohio Grand Prix in 11th place. The Pakistani Panther entered the top 10 and was actively seeking higher positions before the opening lap had even ended.

Ahmed competed for the position at 180 mph even though the track had not yet dried out after receiving heavy rain just hours before the race started. A light mist came down in the middle of the race, making the track slicker and adding to the challenge. Ahmed, 23, was unfazed by the difficulty and persisted in attacking for a position at each available chance.

At a certain moment, Rasmus Lindh came close to forcefully pushing him into the damp grass, but he promptly retreated. His race would have ended instantly if he had even the slightest contact with the soggy grass lining the course because it would have caused his purpose-built race car to become stuck.

After regrouping, Ahmed was able to overtake Lindh a few laps later, using his unparalleled speed on the restart to move up a spot. Even though they were all among the best racers in America, several other drivers slid off the track into the grass when track conditions deteriorated towards the end of the race.

Ahmed eagerly embraced the opportunity to seize the positions vacated by other racers who had crashed while he carefully tended to his Cape Motorsports vehicle on the racing track. Ahmed, a British Formula F3 winner, has gained a lot of experience racing in chilly and rainy circumstances, and this past weekend was proof of that. Ahmed referred to his approach as “capitalizing on the first laps of the restarts.”

Every time there was a fresh start, I would overtake other vehicles, which made the situation favorable. There was a notable amount of smoothness present throughout the experience. The car is becoming better thanks to the staff, but on weekends we arrive too late. But that’s merely a function of our inexperience. The Cape Motorsport team is competing in IndyNXT for the first time, and we’re up against organizations who have been in this for 10 to 20 years.

Once we do, I know we can win because it’s only a matter of time before we get it perfect.” Ahmed finished in the top eight this past weekend for the third time despite only being a rookie. There is still one-half of the 2023 season left for him to demonstrate his abilities.
