Boat Driver Allegedly Shot By Tourist at Khanpur Dam

After a heated dispute, a tourist is accused of shooting and injuring a boat driver on Monday at Khanpur Dam.

The visitor shot the boat driver after an argument over the failure to pay the parasailing fee, according to the police. The incident was captured on camera, which quickly became popular on social media. Manwar Shah, Saeed Khan, and Riasat Ali, three eyewitnesses, reported seeing a family come to the parasailing location. One of the family members started parasailing and flew around the dam eight times. In the eighth cycle, one of them even went paragliding.

The boat had to make three additional circuits since the woman was unable to exit despite receiving all necessary assistance. She also fell only two feet above the water, which caused her family members to start verbally abusing the boat’s crew and even torturing the guard on board. They then pulled two 223-bore weapons out of their cars and began firing.

Raja Hanif Ahsan Kayani, the President of the Boat Association, arrived at the scene and requested the police to assist when he noticed the situation getting worse. In addition, the visitor was attacked by the entire staff, and the cops only just managed to save him and take him to the police station. The police opened a complaint against the accused under the rules of section 144 violation and aerial shooting after gathering evidence.

In another incident on July 2021, during the days around Eid, nine victims, three of whom were tourists, were killed in different events. On Wednesday, two boats they were riding capsized in the small Raghagan dam in the Bajaur tribal district, leaving four people dead and eight injured. According to officials, two boats carrying about 15 picnickers sank after experiencing mechanical difficulties. Twelve people were found by members of Rescue 1122 and the police, who then transported them to the Khar district hospital.

Four of them were certified dead by the physicians. According to Amjad Khan of Khar’s Rescue 1122, Dawn learned that the boat’s “very significant technical malfunction” occurred in the center of the dam, which allowed water to enter. He stated that the boat’s captain had contacted management to request assistance. A boat was rushed in right away to remove picnickers, according to the official, but both boats overturned because of passenger terror. According to the authorities, the three fatalities belonged to a family, while most of the incident’s victims were from the Salarzai district.
