Babar Masih of Pakistan grabs Bronze at the 2022 World Amateur Snooker Championship

At the 2022 World Amateur Snooker Championship in Turkey, Pakistani cueist Babar Masih took home the bronze medal.

Masih was unable to advance to the championship’s final round after losing to Japan’s Lim Kok Leong by a score of 5-3 in Antalya city’s semi-final match. The Indian player Brijesh Damani was defeated by the Pakistani player earlier this week, advancing the Pakistani player to the semifinal stage. The match ended 4-1 because the Pakistani player, who was properly prepared, won four frames against the Indian cueist.

After losing their pre-quarterfinal matches, Ahsan Ramzan and Mohammad Sajjad were eliminated from the championship. In the IBSF 6-Red World Cup final in September 2021, Babar Masih lost to India’s Pankaj Advani 7-5 and had to settle for a silver medal in Doha. In the final, Babar, who had beaten the German cueist in the semifinals, first appeared under siege. However, he eventually fought back, but he was unable to stop his Indian opponent from winning the match. The opening frame of the final was won by India 42-12, but Babar promptly tied the score by winning the following frame 38-14.

Babar missed an opportunity that was key in frames 3 and 4, and Pankaj Advani increased his lead once more. Babar, who was down 1-3, didn’t allow the pressure to get the better of him. He played a break of 53 in the fifth frame to cut the deficit. However, Pankaj went on to win three straight games and took a comfortable 6-2 lead. With 6-2, Pankaj only needed one frame to win the championship, but Babar’s genius made him wait until the 12th frame. The Pakistani cueist had won three straight frames to frighten Advani and bring the score to 5-6.

Babar needed to win the 12th frame to tie the match and advance to the tense last frame of the best of 13 frames, but Pankaj Advani’s break of 32 prevented Babar from doing so. In the semifinal match, Babar Masih defeated Richard Wienold of Germany 6-4.
