Apple Has Threatened To Ban Twitter from the App Store: Elon Musk

Apple has threatened to remove Twitter from its App Store without providing the social media platform with a reason, according to Elon Musk.

The iPhone maker had ceased running ads on Twitter, according to Twitter’s new owner, which led him to wonder if the tech industry detested free speech. Musk made the impending App Store ban public on Monday through a series of tweets. He tweeted that Apple had also threatened to take Twitter out of the App Store but had not provided an explanation.

Musk seems to admit that Apple had a problem with Twitter content control. Musk said that Apple was threatening Twitter’s position in the App Store or otherwise making moderation requests when asked by a journalist user if this was the case. For a response, Apple has been contacted. Early this month, Musk’s $44 billion (£36.8 billion) acquisition of Twitter led to the resignation of Twitter’s head of trust and safety, who warned of a “catastrophic” expulsion from the Apple and Google app stores. Any removal from those app stores, according to Yoel Roth of the New York Times, would make it impossible for billions of potential consumers to acquire Twitter’s services.

The business will reject apps for any content or behavior that we consider is over the line, according to Apple’s app standards. Phil Schiller, the head of Apple’s App Store, canceled his Twitter account earlier this month, prompting rumors that Musk’s business dealings with a significant Twitter app distributor were deteriorating. According to the firms at the time, Apple restored Parler in 2021 after the app improved its content and moderation procedures. Parler is the rightwing social network being owned by US rapper Ye. Musk asserted that Apple had mostly halted advertising on Twitter an hour before revealing the danger to the App Store.

He tweeted that Apple has stopped advertising on Twitter. Is free speech in America despised by them? He then tagged Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, and questioned “what’s going on here.” According to ad measurement company Pathmatics, Apple spent an estimated $131,600 between November 10 and November 16, down from the $220,800 it spent the week before Musk closed the Twitter deal between October 16 and October 22. Musk posted a meme suggesting he was ready to “go to war” with Apple rather than pay the commission in a tweet on Thursday, mocking the up to 30% fee Apple charges software developers for in-app purchases.

Advertisers are worried that Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist,” will permit the spread of hate speech on Twitter. General Motors and Chipotle are two well-known companies that have stopped spending money on Twitter. A bungled redesign of Twitter’s verification procedure, which led to a flurry of phony accounts being created on the site, has only served to support their position. Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, and Katie Hopkins, a right-wing UK broadcaster, were able to rejoin Twitter after Musk last week promised a “wide amnesty” for accounts that had been permanently terminated. Trump’s account has already been restored by Musk, even though he hasn’t used it since being permitted to return to Twitter.
