Anoushey Ashraf Criticized For Calling Rickshaw ride “Cheap”

Anoushey Ashraf made an effort to make public transportation more accessible to the wealthy, but instead, she received criticism for her tone-deaf tweet on rickshaws and what counts as public transportation.

A rickshaw ride was described by the host and RJ as a “pretty safe and affordable” experience. She demanded that she and others be let to utilize the facility without drawing attention to themselves. She posted a video of herself in a rickshaw on Twitter while explaining that she had been offered a lift out of pity by someone who had seen her getting into a rickshaw earlier that day. I believed it would be exciting, convenient, safe (you can leap out of it), and inexpensive. Nonetheless, seeing a “well-off” somebody in a rickshaw can severely scare locals! Normalize public transportation for everyone.

Ashraf’s tone-deaf comment did not go over well with her fans considering that rickshaws are pricey for many people in this nation. Several others cited Ranbir Kapoor’s mockery of Nargis Fakhri in the film Rockstar, in which he made fun of her for being silly and believing she was on an adventure. Some said her video captured the spirit of the “Global Citizen Live” joke that Priyanka Chopra popularized. Users criticized her for “fetishizing” the hardships of the middle class, but many failed to realize that what she was trying to normalize was already the case for many. “If only she had written this with some irony”, a twitter user remarked, “That would be genuinely hilarious”. Most, though, explained to her why rickshaws and cabs are not considered forms of public transportation. A rickshaw is considered a kind of public transportation? Many individuals cannot afford it because it is fairly pricey.

These “well-off” individuals don’t care that the nation is going through a serious crisis. The socioeconomic divide in this nation is even being mentioned as growing “larger by the day” by one user. For the majority of people, it isn’t an adventure because it is now rather pricey. Since they don’t own automobiles or bikes, for many people it is a necessity. Also, I don’t really believe that seeing a “well-off” person will bother anyone. Nevertheless, more significantly, should people not be concerned if the individual wasn’t “well-off”? a tweeter user questioned. Yet another person clarified that while Ashraf may have used a rickshaw as an “adventure,” doing so is a privilege for many. As a rickshaw is quicker and far more expensive than a bus ride, those who *actually* use public transportation understand that using one is a privilege. Everyday commuters are unable to afford to spend lavishly on it.
