Alarming Crime Unveiled: Woman Arrested in Connection with Newborn Trafficking Operation

The Kharadar police detained a woman believed to be involved in the illegal trade of newborns.

They successfully rescued a baby girl from her possession during the operation. The apprehended suspect, identified as Fatima, allegedly engaged in acquiring newborns from both hospitals and villages. This process involved collaboration with nurses, midwives, and individuals involved in child trafficking.

Fatima’s motive was to sell the infants for financial gain. Agha Rasheed, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kharadar police station, disclosed that Fatima had recently acquired a newborn baby girl from a village in Thatta, intending to sell her in Karachi for Rs. 200,000. Acting on intelligence information, the police arrested Fatima and safely recovered the newborn girl.I n the initial questioning, Fatima admitted to the purchase and sale of eight children.

The individual, who resides in Lyari, is currently held in police custody. Additional inquiries will be carried out to uncover additional individuals implicated in the illegal child trafficking operation, and legal measures will be pursued against them. After completing required legal protocols, the police entrusted the recently rescued infant girl to the Edhi Foundation. Meanwhile, Fatima remains in the custody of the women’s police, where investigations are actively exploring the broader network involved in the buying and selling of newborns.
