New Delhi: Once a heart-throb to many in Pakistan, Adnan Sami Khan, has been conferred with India’s fourth-highest civilian national award by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind at New Delhi’s President House.
The singer-cum-musician abandoned the citizenship of Pakistan in 2016, triggering a controversy among his former countrymen from where he rose to fame.
Dating back to 1995, Khan reached the pinnacle of fame after co-starring with his former wife Zeba Bakhtiar in their first movie – Sangam. But later after so many twists and turns in his life, he finally landed and called India his new home, citing the birthplace of his mother in Jammu, India.
The award did not come without its handsome contribution of controversy as in January this year when the Padma Shri winner list was announced, India’s opposition National Congress Party came down hard on Khan’s nomination, calling it an insult to the entire Indian population.
Rubbishing aside criticism and sarcasm emanating from his coveted award, the Indian singer said he is so indulged in the ‘happy’ moment that he has no time to pay attention to such reproaching remarks.
