16 Beggars Removed from Saudi Arabia-Bound Flight

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) successfully removed 16 beggars who were pretending to be Umrah pilgrims from an aircraft at Multan Airport. This group consisted of a total of 16 individuals, comprising 11 women, 4 men, and a child.

Initially, they were traveling on Umrah visas, as reported by the FIA. During the immigration process, FIA personnel extensively questioned passengers who claimed they were heading to Saudi Arabia to beg for alms. They also revealed that the individuals responsible for organizing their travel arrangements would receive a significant portion of the money they earned from begging. Once their Umrah visas had expired, they were required to return to Pakistan.

The FIA Multan circle apprehended these travelers in preparation for further inquiry and potential legal action. The arrests occurred the day after the Senate Committee on Overseas Pakistanis was informed by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development that a sizable portion of beggars is transported abroad through illicit means. According to the secretary of the ministry, who testified before the Senate committee, Pakistan is home to an astounding 90% of the beggars detained abroad. He commented that as a result of these arrests, both the Saudi and Iraqi diplomats noted that the jails were packed with people.
