Victoria’s Secret’s 1st Model with Down Syndrome, meet Sofia Jirau

History is being made! Sofia Jirau is the first Down syndrome model to appear in a Victoria’s Secret ad campaign. The Puerto Rican model, 24, was chosen as one of the faces of the Love Cloud Collection, a new collection of ultra-comfy bras and underwear.

Jirau thanked the lingerie firm for seeing her as a model “without limits” after the collection debuted on Instagram.

“I dreamed of it one day, I worked for it, and today it’s a dream come true,” the Latin model wrote with a black and white image. “At long last, I can reveal my great secret to you.” “I am Victoria’s Secret’s first Down syndrome model!”

Jirau’s fans were eager to applaud her in the comments section. “Thank you for being a member of our #VSFamily,” Victoria’s Secret posted on its Twitter account, while another wrote, “U go lady!!!”

The advertisement also featured 17 additional women of various ages, body kinds, and origins, in addition to Jirau. Among those featured were Hailey Baldwin, Adut Akech, Taylor Hill, Valentina Sampaio, and Paloma Elsesser.

This news comes after the company said in June 2021 that it would be dropping the “Angel” moniker in favour of introducing the VS Collective, which is “an ever-growing network of successful women who share a common commitment to inspire positive change.”

“Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the brand’s evolution,” head creative director Raúl Martinez said in a press release shared with Us Weekly. “From the cast of incredible women that bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard we are creating.”
