Usman Dar Declines To Accept Khawaja Asif’s Apologies

Usman Dar, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said that Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif was responsible for planning the late-night police raid on his home during which his mother was harassed.

The raiding squad allegedly broke into Dar’s home and warned his sister that his mother would be raped if the former minister did not turn himself in to the police, according to allegations made by the opposition party. According to a video that has been making the rounds online, the police allegedly closed the doors of a room containing Dar’s mother after giving the threat.

The party tweeted about the event when it happened, writing, “Police stormed Usman Dar’s home. Infringing on the sacredness of the chadar and the four walls worried the mother of the Dar brothers. Twitter images of the house were also posted by the party. After residents of Asif’s own Sialkot constituency criticized the raid as a significant overreach of executive authority on Saturday, Asif decided to apologize for it. Reporters were told by him, “I’m willing to apologize to women who have been disrespected.

“This is not a political statement that I am making. Despite the fact that this has nothing to do with politics and that I have known these families personally long before politics became a factor, I still hold these women in the same regard as I hold the women in my own home, he said that he was personally ashamed. Dar’s response to the incident, which came after the Tuesday detention of former prime minister Imran Khan in a land dispute, held the minister accountable for the assault on his home. Dar brushed off Asif’s apologies, telling him: “[There’s] no need for pity, quit crying crocodile tears.”
