The popular short-form video site TikTok is where Peacock, an American streaming service, is posting complete episodes in an experiment to enhance the visibility of its shows.
According to NBCUniversal, the parent company of the app, the initial episode of Season 2 of “Killing It” will be accessible for free viewing on TikTok, marking a groundbreaking move for the company. Starting today, TikTok users will be able to locate and watch the pilot episode of Killing It on Peacock’s official TikTok account.
The program has been divided into five distinct sections, each lasting from three to eight minutes. This choice undoubtedly raises questions, especially in light of the ongoing SAG/WGA strike, which has severely impeded the production of several TV shows and films. As traditional promotional avenues for stars have been limited due to the situation, leaving them with few options such as social media posts, it appears that Peacock is relying on its innovative TikTok strategy to attract new viewers to their shows.
Furthermore, the practice of sharing complete films and television episodes is gaining momentum among TikTok users. The initial three episodes of “Killing It” are now available on YouTube, following a similar strategy to its competitor Paramount+. Peacock seems to be taking a comparable approach, as they recently made the second episode of Pete Davidson’s “Bupkis” available on YouTube one month after its premiere on their streaming service in May.
