‘Tesla Bot’ – Elon Musk unveils humanoid robot that will takeover ‘boring’ chores

PALO ALTO: Billionaire entrepreneur and owner of Tesla Elon Musk, after planning brain chips, and hoping to settle on Mars by 2026, is now developing a humanoid robot that will perform all basic tasks.

The newest adventure of SpaceX co-founder is the human-like robot, which stands around 5’8 and weighs in at 125 pounds, is likely to hit the market next year. It can also carry up to 45 pounds and deadlift up to 150 pounds, per reports.

The robot, internally code-named Optimus, reportedly works on the same AI technology which is used in autonomous vehicles of Tesla.

The 50-year-old ‘tech genius’ unveiled the idea stage during the company’s AI Day event while without presenting a prototype, he brought up an actor in a bodysuit modeled after the robot.

Loaded with the latest AI, the robot would also be outfitted with a screen and Tesla’s Autopilot system, consisting of eight cameras. The Tesla Bot is part of the development of the ‘next generation of automation, including a general-purpose, bi-pedal, humanoid robot capable of performing tasks that are unsafe, repetitive or boring’, the company said in a statement.

Revealing The bot is built to take and carry out orders. You can “talk to it and say, ‘please pick up that bolt and attach it to a car with that wrench,’ and it should be able to do that,” Musk said. ‘Please go to the store and get me the following groceries.’ That kind of thing. I think we can do that.” He added, “We hope this does not feature in a dystopian sci-fi movie.”

Musk, while revealing the capabilities during the presentation, said “Essentially, in the future, physical work will be a choice” while he also mentioned that if its creation goes to plan, it will take many jobs of many people”.

Meanwhile, the critics keep reminded deadly crash of autopilot vehicles launched by Tesla. Self-driving cars aren’t a reality yet, experts believe as the electric vehicle maker faced many probes following multiple crashes that killed a number of people. Musk electric cars company is among many tech companies and automakers that are developing their own self-driving cars.
