Teen charged in latest US school shooting

The U.S. prosecutors have charged a student of Oxford High School, Oakland County, Ethan Crumbley as an adult with two dozen crimes, including first-degree murder, attempted murder and terrorism for a shooting that left four students killed and seven wounded.

The victims were identified as Tate Myre, 16, Hana St Juliana, 14, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, and Justin Shilling, 17.

Local sheriff said the parents of the accused teenager were summoned to have a discussion on their child’s behaviour just a few hours before the incident.

Declaring the charges, prosecutor Karen McDonald said her office had ‘a mountain of digital proof’ to show that the accused had planned the attack well before the violence. One video has also surfaced in which the accused was seen discussing about killing his fellow students.

She added that Crumbley will face four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, 12 counts of possession of a firearm and one count of terrorism, with more charges expected as the probe proceeds.

Later, in a press conference, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that charging the accused as an adult was the most suitable action. He will be shifted from a juvenile detention centre to the local county prison, where he will be detained without bond.

Crumbley has refused to talk to the investigators on the instructions of his family.
