Supreme Court reverses major events of April 3rd

The Supreme Court of Pakistan overturned Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri’s verdict on Imran Khan’s no-confidence motion on Thursday.

It also reinstated the National Assembly, which had been disbanded on Imran Khan’s suggestion by President Arif Alvi. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ruled that the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly’s verdict on the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan was incorrect.

During the session, Supreme Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial stated that while Suri’s April 3 judgment was clearly “erroneous,” “the actual question at hand is what happens next.”

The no-confidence motion against Khan, who had lost the majority in the National Assembly and was on his way out of power, was dismissed by Deputy Speaker Suri, who cited Article 5 (loyalty to the State). On Khan’s urging, President Arif Alvi dissolved the Assembly minutes later.
