Spider-Man: No Way Home earns $253 million in US alone

The new Sony and Marvel film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” had the third-largest domestic opening of all time, with an estimated $253 million in its opening weekend in North America.

Analysts anticipate it will be the first picture in the pandemic age to gross a billion dollars, according to box office monitors.

According to the BoxOfficeMojo website, it only trails “Avengers: Endgame” ($357 million) and “Avengers: Infinity War” ($258 million) at the box office. Early expectations of $130-150 million for “Spider-Man” were greatly surpassed.

According to industry analyst Exhibitor Relations, the latest superhero film is on track to gross $600 million internationally. This comes as theatres struggle to recover from months of Covid-induced closures.

Franchise Entertainment Research’s David A. Gross told AFP, “This is a tremendous opening.”

“‘Spider-Man’ is exploding,” he added, whereas other major shows struggle to maintain their momentum.

Analysts, on the other hand, caution that the industry’s recovery is still far from complete, particularly amid predictions of a fresh wave of coronavirus infections spurred by the Omicron type.

The next Spider-Man picture is Tom Holland’s third solo adventure in the immensely popular role, which has previously been played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. When it comes to large apertures, the webslinger is a pro. In 2002, the original picture starring Maguire became the first film in cinema history to gross more over $100 million in its opening weekend.
