Sindh Health Minister Implements Ban on Gutka and Cigarettes Usage During Duty Hours

The Sindh Health Department has implemented a complete ban on smoking, as well as the consumption of Gutka and Manipuri, within the grounds of public sector workplaces and hospitals throughout the province, aiming to foster healthier settings.

Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz, the Minister of Health for Sindh, made this announcement on Friday. Responsible for overseeing the rigorous compliance with this directive is Dr. Irshad Memon, Director-General (DG) of Health Services in Sindh. Written instructions have been issued to the Directors and Medical Superintendents of all major hospitals and medical institutions, instructing them to enforce the ban strictly.

Emphasizing the importance of the restriction, Dr. Irshad Memon has urged all hospital administrators to be vigilant and unwavering in enforcing the rules. According to Dr. Memon, smoking, Manipuri, and Gutka usage, all pose significant health hazards, directly conflicting with the goals of healthcare facilities, which are to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for both patients and employees. With this recent action, the province of Sindh has taken a proactive initiative to protect public health and reduce exposure to dangerous compounds in medical facilities.
