Sialkot police book 121 lawyers for ransacking AC’s office

In Sialkot, police have booked at least 121 lawyers for assaulting and vandalizing the office of assistant commissioner.

It is to be noted here that in May this year, the then Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab Firdous Ashiq Awan got angry at the same Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf during a visit to Ramzan Bazaar. This public humiliation of a government official triggered a debate on social media and many demanded Awan tender an apology to the A.C. but a month later in June, the Punjab government transferred Sadaf to Pind Dadan Khan (Jhelum district).

A big number of lawyers had attacked the government official’s office after the A.C. got razed an illegal structure during an anti-encroachment campaign in the city. The lawyers alleged the step was not justified, defying court’s stay order in this regard.

In his complaint, the naib tehsildar said that the lawyers of the district bar association led by Humayun Pervez Bhutta Advocate forcefully entered the office of Sialkot AC Sonia Sadaf by tearing down its door and ransacked it. He added that they also threw out the furniture and detached the name plate of the A.C.

He went on to say that the lawyers gathered at Kachehri Chowk and used derogatory language against the woman official.
