Shoaib to lead talent hunt for footballers for PM’s sports drive

Former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has launched a talent search in Pakistan for 12 footballers for the NexGen Soccer Trials organised by Global Soccer Ventures and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Kamyab Jawan sports initiative.

Shoaib Akhtar will spearhead a campaign to promote soccer in Pakistan. The trials will take place in 10 cities across Pakistan at 11 different locations. The trials, according to the announcement, will provide participants with a life-changing opportunity through professional football contracts in Ireland.

Under the St.Football Patrick’s Club development initiative in Ireland, the tour will also include four masterclasses in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Islamabad to enhance local football coaching expertise to European levels.

For coaching classes, approximately 15-20 instructors have been chosen. Coaches will learn how to enhance their coaching techniques and teach skills to athletes. They will be qualified train-the-trainers in Pakistan, ensuring a long-term roll-out under the Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive.

Shoaib Akhtar said, “I will do everything in my sphere of influence to ensure football is no longer neglected in Pakistan. It has been like an orphan since the 1950s, homeless and kicked around by various bandits. I will make sure football resurfaces professionally and ethically for the benefit of Pakistani players.”

“The revival of sports is the top priority of Prime Minister Imran Khan. I welcome GSV in their efforts for reviving football in Pakistan. PM’s Kamyab Jawan Program together with GSV will ensure that through football talent hunt we will produce the next football heroes who will represent Pakistan nationally and internationally,” said SAPM Usman Dar in a press conference here on Monday.

Dar stated that he has paid extra attention to the game because his son aspires to be a professional football player. He stated that 20 kids will be taken to Ireland and that a total of 5000 pounds would be spent on each player’s development.

“We want the sportspersons of Pakistan to get a platform and we want sports to get an economic status. We are also bringing in sports scholarships,” he said.
