Shaheen Afridi Claims the Top Spot in ICC ODI Bowler Rankings

Following his outstanding start to the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistan’s top pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has emerged as the finest one-day international (ODI) bowler.

With eighteen wickets at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the young fast bowler, who topped the ICC ODI rankings by seven points, is currently tied with Australia’s spinner, Adam Zampa, for the most wickets taken (16). Due to Afridi’s nine-position surge, Josh Hazlewood of Australia (ranked second) and Mohammed Siraj of India (ranked third) have dropped a spot, while the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav (ranked seventh) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (ranked eighth) have both moved up two spots within the top 10.

It’s worth noting that during the match against Bangladesh, Shaheen Afridi achieved the milestone of becoming the fastest fast-bowler to reach 100 wickets in ODIs. This marks the first time that Afridi has claimed the number-one ranking in any format, and it also means that Pakistani players currently hold the top positions in two ODI categories. Captain Babar Azam maintains a narrow lead at the top of the batting rankings.

However, it’s important to mention that Babar Azam’s lead in the ODI batting rankings has narrowed to just two rating points, possibly due to his recent innings of only nine runs against Bangladesh. On the other hand, Fakhar Zaman has improved his position, now occupying the 14th spot, whereas Imam-ul-Haq is situated in the 11th position.
