For the first time, Taliban officials released photos of Sirajuddin Haqqani when he made a rare public appearance in Kabul.
Haqqani has long been wanted by the US in connections with terrorist attacks. Sirajuddin Haqqani is the acting interior minister of Afghanistan.
Haqqani, wearing a black turban and white shawl, appeared in a rare public appearance at the graduation ceremony of newly recruited Afghan police officers. They are the first group to graduate from a police academy during the Taliban regime.
He last appeared in public in October, though the Taliban had tarnished his image.He told officers in a speech that he was appearing in media for “your satisfaction and for building your trust.” He added he was showing his face so “you could know how much value we have with our leadership.”
Haqqani is wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation for questioning, and the United States has offered a 10 million reward for information leading to his capture.
