Saudi Arabia Secures Exclusive Bid to Host 2034 FIFA World Cup, Confirms FIFA

The world’s governing body of soccer, FIFA, announced that Saudi Arabia was the only football association to submit a proposal to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup before the deadline expired.

On October 4, just minutes after FIFA stated that applications from Asia and Oceania would be accepted for the event, Saudi Arabia declared it would submit a bid. Saudi Arabia is the only bidder for the tournament as Australia announced on Tuesday that it would not be submitting one. According to FIFA, comprehensive bidding and assessment procedures will be carried out for the FIFA World Cup editions in 2030 and 2034, following the Bidding Regulations sanctioned by the FIFA Council.

The host countries for FIFA events will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2024 during FIFA Congresses. Yasser Al Misehal, the president of the Saudi Football Association, has stated that Saudi Arabia is fully committed to meeting all FIFA standards to win the right to host the World Cup. On X, a social networking platform, he stated that every individual within the Saudi football community is putting forth their utmost effort to make the dream of Saudi men and women of witnessing the World Cup in their country a reality for the very first time.

“We believe in football’s immense power to inspire future generations, and we hope that the 2034 World Cup will play a significant role in promoting the sport worldwide.” Only Morocco, Portugal, and Spain bid to host the 2030 World Cup; Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will have celebratory matches, according to FIFA. On October 4th, FIFA revealed that the joint proposal by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal had been selected to host the 2030 World Cup, pending the successful conclusion of the bidding process.
