The Esports World Cup will commence annually in Riyadh in the summer of 2024, as announced by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It is anticipated to become the largest event of its kind in history, serving as a platform to support the gaming and esports industry and solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a global esports hub. The National Gaming and Esports Strategy of Saudi Arabia expects to achieve its objectives with the start of the tournament. By implementing this strategy, the sector’s contribution to the Kingdom’s GDP is projected to increase by over SR50 billion ($13.3 billion) and 39,000 new jobs will be created by 2030.

To promote greater cooperation among esports stakeholders, the crown prince has also announced the establishment of the Esports World Cup Foundation, a charitable organization. These milestones were unveiled in the Saudi capital during “The New Global Sports Conference,” as stated in a press release. “The Esports World Cup offers an unparalleled esports experience that exceeds industry standards and represents the logical next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the world’s foremost gaming and esports hub,” declared the crown prince. He added, “The competition will expedite our progress towards achieving the Vision 2030 goals, including economic diversification, tourism sector expansion, creation of new job opportunities across various industries, and provision of high-quality entertainment to citizens, residents, and tourists alike.”

As Saudi Arabia steadily diversifies its economy in line with the Vision 2030 objectives, the development of the esports industry gains immense importance. It is also expected that the annual esports tournament will attract more tourists to the Kingdom. The champions of the Esports World Cup will be awarded the largest prize pools in esports history, featuring various renowned titles across genres. A diverse range of activities and events will be available for event attendees. According to the press release, the Esports World Cup Foundation will release further information about the tournament in early 2024.
