Samsung all set to establish TV line-up plant in Karachi

KARACHI: In another major development in the country’s financial hub Karachi, the electronics giant Samsung is establishing a TV line-up plant, PM’s aide on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood said Wednesday.

Announcing the development on Twitter, Dawood wrote “I have been informed that Samsung Electronics is in the process of establishing their TV line-up plant in collaboration with the R&R Industries at Karachi.”

He further added that the plant will become functional in the last quarter of this year and is expected to produce around 50,000 units on annual basis.

Furthermore, PM’s aide, in another tweet of the series, wrote “the latest business venture is a vindication of the Ministry of Commerce’s Make-in-Pakistan policy for industrialization via rationalization of input costs and other incentives.”

Earlier this year, the tech giant inked an agreement with Lucky Motor Corporation to begin manufacturing phones in the South Asian country.

Let it be known that the decision of the second-largest mobile phone firm to assemble phones in Pakistan depicted the success of the Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy (MDMP) which was launched by incumbent authorities back in June this year.

As per the MDMP, the government aimed at manufacturing 80 percent of mobile phones in Pakistan.

The whole development came as PM, in August 2020, declared that the government vigorously pursuing manufacturing products in Pakistan in a bid to promote export-oriented industrialization.
