Throwback: Revisiting legacy of Lata Mangeshkar with othernews.pk

Rewinding to some of the finest songs by nightingale of Bollywood Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.

There may not be a moment when somebody, somewhere, is not listening to a song sung by Lata Mangeshkar. It has been so for the last seven decades or so.

Her voice was heavenly, her range wide and her expressions always so right. And she was incapable of singing out of tune.

Mangeshkar’s first music lesson was given by her father Deenanath Mangeshkar, a disciple of the Gwalior gharana (a community of performers who share a distinctive musical style), and she was also tutored by maestros such as Aman Ali Khan Sahib and Amanat Khan.

Two days of national mourning will follow the funeral and the national flag will be flown at half-mast in India.

Mangeshkar was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai in January after testing positive for Covid-19.
