PUBG takes Apple and Google to Court, asks to halt sales of Free Fire

Another legal conflict by PUBG, but this time with two most biggest tech giants in the industry, Apple and Google.

The maker of Player Unknown’s battleground (PUBG) has filed the case against tech giants for offering rip pff versions of PUBG on their App stores.

In US based accusation Krafton claims that one of the biggest rivals of PUBG that is Garena’s online battle royale game, Free Fire has copied many of PUBG’s copyright elements.

This allegedly copied the game structure, in-game items, equipment, and locations.

According to the legal lawsuit, Apple and Google distributed millions of copies of Free Fire through their own app stores. In the first three months of 2021, Garena is said to have made more than $100 million from Free Fire sales in the United States.

Krafton also argues that Google’s YouTube is a defendant in the case since it hosts Free Fire’s gameplay footage as well as a Chinese film that is reportedly a live-action portrayal of PUBG on the platform.

Furthermore, Krafton claims that it tried unsuccessfully to get Apple and Google to stop selling copies of Free Fire in December 2021. The PUBG creator has now urged the court to halt sales of Free Fire and seek damages for Garena’s earnings from the game.

According to Krafton, Free Fire was released in 2017 on the App Store and Google Play Store, and Garena released a copyright-infringing video game named Free Fire MAX last year.

So far, none of the parties involved have issued an official statement.

PUBG which is basically released as one of first royale games of the industry.

Battle royale game type was also incorporated into other popular titles later including Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and others.
