On Wednesday, a pond near the Russian embassy in Vilnius was coloured blood red in protest of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
“The performance ‘Swimming Through’ is a call for action in favour of the Ukrainian people who are experiencing genocide committed by Russia,” Lithuanian Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte, who swam through the red-dyed pond, said in a tweet.
The demonstration had been coordinated with environmental protection officials, according to Julija Samorokovskaja, a spokesman for Vilnius County Police, who added that the colour was harmless.

The demonstration, according to Vilnius Municipality spokesman Paulius Vaitekenas, was an artistic performance intended to call international attention to Russia’s war crimes.
According to him, the dye was comparable to that used to tint the River Vilnia in the Lithuanian capital on St Patrick’s Day.
Berta Tilmantaite, founder of the journalistic platform NARA, Neringa Rekasiute, and Aurelija Urbonaviciute are the other authors of the performance, in addition to Meilutyte.
Russia invaded Ukraine moreover a month ago, causing worldwide indignation and anger.
Thousands of Ukrainians have been killed, and millions more have been forced to abandon the country due to the conflict.
There are more stories of Ukrainian residents being tortured by Russian troops in regions where the Kremlin’s army has temporarily taken control.
