Pakistan’s first tram service in Lahore?

The Punjab government is debating to launch of Pakistan’s first electric tram service in Lahore.

Sardar Usman Buzdar, the Chief Minister, has directed that the environmentally friendly electric tramway project will be started as soon as possible, as it will improve access to the highway while reducing traffic congestion on Canal Road and Multan Road.

The chief minister chaired a meeting about the project’s launch this week. The attendees also discussed the elevated expressway project connecting Gulberg and Motorway M-2.

A meeting to examine the electric tram project was hosted by Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. He requested the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to provide project’s feasibility report in a final shape so that the government could move on with Pakistan’s first electric tram service.

The elevated expressway will pass from Canal Bank Road to Babu Sabu, passing through Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Multan Road, and Bund Road. The project was briefed by the Director General of the Lahore Development Authority.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Salman Shah, Adviser to the Chief Minister, ACS, Chairman P&D, Secretaries of the Transport and Housing Departments, DG Punjab Masstransit Authority, and others.

The PTI government, according to CM Buzdar, is determined to enhance the standard of facilities in Lahore. He urged local officials to expedite work on ongoing projects in order to make life easier for residents.

In an attack on the opposition, CM Buzdar said that previous governments announced development plans worth Rs. 67 billion in Lahore during their third year’s government, whereas the PTI government launched Rs. 86 billion in projects during its third year.
