Pakistani Athlete Advances to the Boston Marathon after Berlin Marathon

Pakistani runners participated in the marathon and qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2024. With a time of three hours, six minutes, and seven seconds, Pakistani competitor Faysal Shafi earned a spot in the Boston Marathon in 2024.

Eliud Kipchoge’s new record time of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 9 seconds brightened a cloudy morning in the German city. You’ll have to wait and see what happens next, he said at the post-race press conference, but he gave a hint that Berlin had not seen the last of him. A beaming Kipchoge remarked that he is African, and we think you pursue one rabbit at a time in Africa. So the Berlin Marathon 2022 was the “rabbit” that our team chased.

The two-time Olympic champion in Rio and Tokyo was on track to surpass the elusive two-hour mark as the halfway point passed at 59:51. However, despite a minor slowdown, Kipchoge persevered to surpass his previous best of 2:01:39 from Berlin in 2018. Salman Khan, Danish Elahi, and Ali Khurshid competed in the 35-year-old age group, while Pakistani athletes Faysal Shafi, Nausherwan, and others competed in the 40-year-old age group. With a time of three hours, six minutes, and seven seconds, Pakistani competitor Faysal Shafi earned a spot in the Boston Marathon in 2024.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced with pride that, assuming their qualifying time is validated, all qualified competitors who filed applications during the registration period for the 2023 Boston Marathon (September 12–16) would be admitted to the race on April 17. Acting B.A.A. CEO Jack Fleming stated that with registration serving as our Opening Day, they are delighted to kick off the journey to Boston for qualified competitors from around the world. The perseverance, fervor, and camaraderie of marathon runners will be on show on Patriots’ Day, bringing our community together in the spirit of athletics and our heritage. In just seven months, the 127th Boston Marathon will be run, and they cannot wait.

Throughout the five-day registration period, 23,267 applications were submitted in total, up from the 22,936 eligible applications that were received the previous year. There are 22, non-binary athletes in the field of 2023 qualifiers, along with 9,930 women and 13,315 men. 624 runners who have completed at least 10 consecutive Boston Marathons were already eligible to compete. Thirty thousand runners will compete in the 127th Boston Marathon. Athletes representing official charity partners, sponsors, members of our professional field, and other invited entries will make up the remaining field. The B.A.A. announced the qualifying period started on September 1, 2022, for the 128th Boston Marathon, which is slated to take place on April 15, 2024. Registration information for that race will be released after the Boston Marathon in 2023.
