Pakistan trashes $4 Billion Worth of Food every year

Pakistan wastes food annually worth $4 billion, according to a disturbing estimate. Pakistan wastes 26% of its annual food production, according to a Ministry of National Food Security & Research report.

In Pakistan, 19.6 million tons of food are wasted each year, according to the report. In spite of the measures taken to maintain food security, the survey further indicated that the majority of food items are wasted because they do not match the standards for appearance, size, and color.

According to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research’s research, the majority of food items are wasted and not included in the supply chain for a variety of reasons. The majority of food items kept in kitchens are typically thrown away each year after their expiration dates, the survey also noted.

Pakistan, despite being a farming nation, is currently experiencing a food scarcity, particularly in light of the recent floods and severe rain. The Kissan Package’s implementation has previously been ordered to be sped up by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif.

In Islamabad, he was presiding over a conference to examine the historic Kissan Package, which was a gift from the government to support the growth of the agricultural sector. In Pakistan, food security must be ensured at any costs, according to the prime minister. According to him, Pakistan’s food security is guaranteed by the growth of the agricultural industry.
