Pakistan to launch e-passport service from 2022

In Pakistan, the authorities have finalized arrangements to issue e-passports from 2022 under a shift towards digital transformation.

According to local media, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed headed a meeting in this regard with Director General Passport, Chairman NADRA, Additional Director General FIA and interior secretary were in attendance.

It was also decided during the meeting to remove all obstacles in the present manual system and assist the overseas Pakistanis to process online applications with an updated system.

The new system will carry biometric documents to accelerate the identification process, easing passport control and automate services. The service will also help the authorities to finish the travel process in the shortest possible time.

The new passports will hold a biometric chip having personal data like pictures, fingerprints with other information while the microchip would be implanted in every e-passport to help authenticate the visitor’s identity.

With this new innovation, two pictures of the passport holder will be shown on the main page of his new passport.
