Pakistan Lodges Complaint on Conduct of Ahmedabad Crowd

In response to the crowd’s behavior at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the 2023 World Cup match between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC), as reported by ARY News.

The PCB, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), claimed to have lodged a complaint regarding the “inappropriate conduct” directed at the Pakistani players during the India vs. Pakistan match, which took place at Ahmedabad Stadium on October 14, 2023.

During the high-stakes game, India emerged victorious with a seven-wicket lead, and the stadium was filled. Throughout the match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, spectators directed offensive language towards the Pakistani team. When Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan in the initial innings, he faced religious taunts.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Rizwan faced a complaint from Indian attorney Vineet Jindal, who reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that Rizwan had expressed support for Gaza and performed Namaz on the field. After scoring the match-winning century against Sri Lanka earlier in the ICC World Cup 2023, Rizwan dedicated his century to the people of Gaza.

Rizwan’s actions stirred controversy within the Indian media, but the ICC chose not to intervene as it occurred off the field and was related to his personal actions. However, the PCB has formally protested to the ICC concerning the absence of a visa policy for Pakistani supporters attending the ongoing World Cup 2023 and the delays in granting visas to Pakistani journalists. Zaka Ashraf, the president of the PCB Management Committee, met with Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi to express his concerns about the time it is taking to grant visas to Pakistani fans and journalists who intend to travel to India for the 2023 World Cup. Some journalists from Pakistan later obtained visas and traveled to India before the India-Pakistan match on October 14.

Regarding the game itself, India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in a one-sided blockbuster encounter held in front of a full Narendra Modi Stadium, maintaining their perfect 50-over World Cup record against their arch-rivals. India quickly took control of the match by dismissing their opponents for 191 runs in just 43 overs.

Despite Babar Azam (50) and Mohammad Rizwan (49) putting Pakistan within reach of nearly 300 runs, they collapsed and were unable to complete their full 50 overs. With a scintillating 86 runs to lead the chase, India’s captain Rohit Sharma eventually secured victory in 30.3 overs, preserving India’s flawless record against Pakistan throughout the tournament’s history.
