Jamal Shah, the interim Minister for Culture and Heritage, has announced the launch of a heritage channel specifically for promoting Pakistani regional literature.
He made this announcement during the opening session of a two-day conference at the Pakistan Academy of Letters in Islamabad, with the theme “Hum Jugnu Taaray Dharti Ke.” According to the Minister, the channel will feature translated versions of various types of regional literature, including parables, adages, poetry, and music.
This will allow young people from all over the nation, regardless of the language they speak, to comprehend the essence of our multiethnic nation’s folk knowledge. To achieve this goal, the services of musicians and linguists proficient in the necessary languages will be employed. Additionally, the literature will also be produced in the form of books and magazines. We’ll work to complete this project as soon as possible,” the Minister emphasized, acknowledging the short-term of the caretaker government. In addition to promoting the value of recognizing unity in diversity, Jamal Shah urged raising awareness of regional languages and their rich linguistic identities among the younger generation.
The two-day conference will also address the promotion of children’s literature in local languages. It’s worth noting that Jamal Shah’s outstanding artistic achievements extend beyond the entertainment industry; the renowned painter and sculptor is credited with creating the bronze bust of Dr. Abdus Salam, a Pakistani Nobel laureate, which was unveiled at the International Atomic Energy Agency last year.
