Nine People Killed as Rain And Hailstorms Hits Hyderabad and Kotri

For the last 48 hours, severe rains have pummeled Hyderabad and other districts of Sindh, causing at least nine fatalities while also bringing with them wind gusts, hailstorms, and lightning.

Hyderabad and Kotri, two twin cities, had severe rain and hail on Tuesday afternoon.

Several cars and windows in Hyderabad’s SITE area were damaged by golf ball-sized hailstones. Trees and cars were damaged by the blustery winds. Millions of people in lower Sindh have been left without electricity for hours as a result of the poor weather paralyzing life and interfering with Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) electricity grid.

A tower of the 66Kv Mithi-to-Tando Jan Mohammad transmission line was destroyed in New Kot and the surrounding area, and 53 Hesco feeders’ ability to supply electricity was put on hold. In Kotri City, the intense rain caused the deaths of three children and injuries to seven other people. According to the authorities, the children, identified as Farhana, 10, Asma, 11, and Muhammad Yusuf, 12, were playing when the wall collapsed, instantly killing them. Six persons perished as a result of lightning in a tragic incident that happened in the Tharparkar district.

Vivek, 16, Govind, 15, Lalu, Velu, and Pulji Kolhi, all of the Sethar village, were among the victims of lightning who also perished, as were Jhaman, Vilji, Nihal, Somaar, Basant, Tago, Tejo, and Villow. Santosh, 35, was also slain, as were Lalu, 30, Velu, and Pulji Kolhi, 20, and 30. It is important to emphasize that the Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms for various locations throughout the next 24 hours.
