Multan and Bukhara Set to Become Sister States

Mohsin Naqvi, who is currently serving as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, had a constructive discussion with Governor Bukhara Botir Zaripov during his visit to Uzbekistan.

The two parties reached a joint agreement to officially declare Bukhara and Multan as sister cities. This decision was conveyed through an official statement. The main topic of discussion revolved around the potential establishment of a sister city relationship between Multan and Bukhara. Both sides agreed to take the necessary steps to facilitate this partnership. During his conversation with Governor Botir Zaripov, Chief Minister Naqvi emphasized the shared heritage of Sufism. He highlighted that designating Multan and Bukhara as sister cities would not only strengthen their connection but also contribute to the further promotion of Sufism and religious culture.

He underscored the ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan in terms of history, religion, and culture, pointing out the latter’s economic development as a result of revolutionary agricultural reforms. Chief Minister Naqvi expressed confidence that Punjab would benefit from Uzbekistan’s agricultural initiatives, particularly in the fields of cotton and wheat seed production. He also emphasized the advantages of enhanced road connectivity between the two nations for tourism and economic cooperation. He expressed his intention to expedite agricultural cooperation through a joint committee between the Punjab province and Uzbekistan. When Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his delegation arrived at Bukhara Airport, Governor Botir Zaripov warmly greeted them and reaffirmed his commitment to close cooperation. He stressed his aim to increase collaboration with the Punjabi government in agriculture, seed development, and other industries.

Before the meeting, the team had the opportunity to visit a cutting-edge cotton facility and cotton fields in Tashkent. Chief Minister Naqvi examined the factory’s cutting-edge equipment and cotton processing procedures during the visit. He commended the use of modern technology and advocated for its further incorporation. Uzbekistan officials briefed the delegation on the advantages of modern machinery in the cotton business. Chief Minister Naqvi expressed his intention to establish similar cutting-edge cotton plants in Punjab and his determination to increase collaboration with the Uzbek government in this endeavor. The delegation also visited cotton fields where they applauded the work of Uzbek agricultural specialists in achieving outstanding cotton yields.

Given that this visit marks an important step in developing agricultural cooperation, Chief Minister Naqvi stressed the importance of utilizing Uzbekistan’s expertise to increase cotton output in Punjab. The Chief Minister and the accompanying delegation were briefed on Uzbekistan’s position as a significant cotton producer in the area, with an average yield that mirrors the seasonal circumstances of Punjab and ranges from 700 to 1800 kilograms per acre.

Provincial Ministers SM Tanveer and Amir Mir, along with Chief Secretary of Punjab Maj. Gen. Shahid, Secretary of Agriculture of Punjab Gohar Ejaz, Fawad Mukhtar, Shahid Sattar, Naseerullah, and Commissioners from Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan were all in attendance at the meeting.
