McGregor arrested in Ireland

Conor McGregor, the former UFC two-weight champion, was detained in Dublin on Thursday for “alleged road traffic offences,” according to his representative.

“Mr McGregor was travelling to the gym when he was stopped by gardai (Irish police) for alleged traffic infractions,” the spokeswoman said in an email to Reuters.

“At the station, he passed the drug and alcohol tests.” McGregor’s car was seized after his detention on Tuesday evening, according to the Irish Independent, but it has now been returned to him.

According to the storey, McGregor was escorted to a police station, where he was later charged and freed on bail. Next month, the 33-year-old will appear before district court.

McGregor’s last bout was in July 2021, when he was defeated by Dustin Poirier after suffering a bizarre leg break that necessitated surgery.

When McGregor was unable to continue after the first round at Ultimate Fighting Championship 264 last year, Poirier defeated him for the second time in six months.

Over the last half-decade, McGregor has been unable to reclaim his frightening mixed martial arts (MMA) form, and despite his protests, there was little in the first round at UFC 264 to suggest he was back in elite condition.
