5 local films people can’t wait to see in theatres after COVID lockdowns

As the year 2022 starts, we have enlisted 5 of the most anticipated local productions to mark your calendars for.

The reopening of theatres is undoubtedly the most positive development for artists and filmmakers this year.

Filmgoers flocked to theatres to see Khel Khel Mein, the first Pakistani film to be released after the shutdown. But, believe us when we say that things are only going to get better. While Bollywood films are no longer permitted in Pakistan, there is a backlog of Pakistani films awaiting distribution. As the year 2022 approaches, we’ve put together a list of five of the most anticipated local performances to mark your calendars.

Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer’

Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer starring Yasir Hussain and Ayesha Omar and is based on the life of serial killer Javed Iqbal. When the first trailer for Abu Aleeha was released, it became the talk of the town. Its teaser features violent chase sequences, high-octane emotions, and a terrifying voiceover by Hussain as Iqbal. The film is based on a book written by the filmmaker and promises to be a fascinating offering with an unique storyline in a local market flooded with too many of the same monotonous romantic comedies and domestic rivalries.

‘Zindagi Tamasha’

Sarmad Khoosat’s film Zindagi Tamasha will be released in Pakistani theatres in March 2022. The film, which will also be Pakistan’s entry for the Oscars in November 2020, will star Arif Hasan as Rahat, a naat khwaan who has become a celebrity in his community after getting approval despite widespread opposition due to the delicate subject matter. Because he is a devout Muslim, there is no forgiveness for him if he makes a mistake.

‘Legend of Maula Jatt’

Because of the depiction of blood and gore, the remake is not a family film, and the makers have cautioned parents not to bring their children to see it.

The Legend of Maula Jatt, which was due to be out in May this year, is another film that many of us have been waiting for. Now we’re looking for a 2022 release for the picture, which stars Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi as Maula Jatt and Noori Nath, respectively. It stars Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick, Ali Azmat, Shafqat Cheema, and Nayyer Ejaz and is directed by Bilal Lashari and produced by Ammara Hikmat.

‘Ghabrana Nahi Hai’

Saba Qamar’s latest film, Ghabrana Nahi Hai, has released its debut trailer, which teased a thrilling action-packed trip for fans of desi crime thrillers. The preview features gold-chained gangsters, gun-wielding cops, sherwani-clad politicians, and a bride marching into a wedding location full of astonished guests, seemingly ready for a fight. The film, directed by Saqib Khan and starring Zahid Ahmed, Syed Jibran, and Nayyer Ijaz, is set to be released in 2022 on Eid ul Fitr.

‘Quaid e Azam Zindabad’

The first poster for Nabeel Qureshi’s Quaid e Azam Zindabad, an action comedy starring Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan, teased that the film would be released’soon.’ With films like Na Maloom Afraad, Actor In Law, and Load Wedding, critics and fans alike are hopeful that Quaid e Azam Zindabad will be just as entertaining while also delivering significant societal messages, and we can’t wait!
